Here is the IRS\u2019s Bill of Rights.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Right to Be Informed<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Taxpayers have a right to clear explanations of laws of procedures. They have the right to be informed of IRS decisions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Right to Quality Service<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Taxpayers have the right to receive prompt, courteous, and professional assistance.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Right to Pay No More Than the Correct Amount of Tax<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Although they do add the amount of tax plus interest and penalties.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Right to Challenge the IRS\u2019s Position<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On this one, I\u2019ve got to say the IRS does a pretty good job. If you are being audited and don\u2019t agree, you can appeal to a supervisor. We\u2019ve done that several times and had the supervisor rein in an out-of-control auditor. That\u2019s good news! If that doesn\u2019t work, you can still appeal to the IRS. And you can take it to Tax Court beyond that.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Right to Appeal an IRS Decision in an Independent Forum<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Office of Appeals is separate from the auditor and their supervisor.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Right to Finality<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Taxpayers have the right to know how much they how and how much time they have to appeal. They have the right to know when the IRS has finished an audit.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Right to Privacy<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Taxpayers have the right to expect the IRS to be no more intrusive than necessary.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Right to Confidentiality<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Taxpayers have the right to expect that any information they provide to the IRS will not be disclosed unless authorized by the taxpayer or by law.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Right to Retain Representation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Taxpayers have the right to hire an authorized representative of their choice to represent them in IRS dealings.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Right to a Fair and Just Tax System<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Taxpayers have the right to expect the tax system to consider facts and circumstances that might affect their underlying liabilities, ability to pay, or ability to provide information timely.
